Assoc. Prof. Selim Öztürk earned his Ph.D. in Area Studies from Middle East Technical University in 2018, with a dissertation on “The Role of Political Salafism in State Formation.” From 2018 to 2021, he was a faculty member at the Security Sciences Institute of the Turkish National Police Academy, where he taught courses on Middle Eastern politics, armed non-state actors, radicalization, and political ideologies. From 2021 to 2024, he served as Cultural Attaché at the Turkish Embassy in Tel Aviv. Prof. Öztürk speaks Arabic and Hebrew and is the author of Taliban and Islamic State: Terrorists or State Builders.
