Ambassador Robert Ford is a scholar at the Middle East Institute in Washington, DC. Ford was the US Ambassador to Syria from 2011 to 2014 seeking a political solution to the civil war there. He was also the US Ambassador in Algeria boosting ties in education and the rule of law. He served in Iraq on three assignments, helping the transition from US control to Iraqi sovereign rule. Before joining the diplomatic service he was a teacher in Morocco. After thirty years in the diplomatic service, he taught at Yale University for eight years.
