Dr. Orkhan Valiyev is an Associate Professor specializing in national studies, political philosophy, and political epistemology. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Sakarya University, where he was awarded a Turkish Scholarship. His doctoral dissertation, Nation-building Process in Azerbaijan during the Tsarist Period: 1850–1920, was published in Turkish in 2020 and 2023. He also holds a BA in Philosophy from Baku State University and an MA in Political Science from the Academy of Public Administration in Azerbaijan.
Dr. Valiyev completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Trakya University in 2021 under the Turkish Scholarship Program and was a visiting researcher at Sakarya University’s Center for Diaspora Studies in 2022.
He holds several prominent academic roles, including Associate Fellow at the Center for Strategic Research and Analysis (CESRAN), Assistant Editor of the Khazar Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (indexed in Web of Science), and Associate Editor of The Rest: Journal of Politics and Development. He also serves on the scientific committee for the Republican Scientific Conference of PhD Students and Young Researchers.
Dr. Valiyev’s research primarily focuses on the South Caucasus and the Turkic World, with significant contributions across over 30 publications, including articles in indexed journals, op-eds, and book chapters in Azerbaijani, Turkish, and English. In addition, he is the author of the textbook Introduction to Azerbaijani National Studies (2024).
