Mrs Sadiya Umar Farouq was appointed the pioneer minister by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, becoming the youngest Minister in the cabinet. Mrs Farouq also facilitated the National Migration Dialogue. In 2020, she inaugurated the Humanitarian Policy Dialogue Forum (HPDF) in Abuja.
Prior to being appointed Minister, Mrs Farouq served as the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugee, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) from October 2016 to August 2019. She served as the National Treasurer of the CPC Party and interim National Treasurer of All Progressive Congress.
Mrs Farouq holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a specialisation in Actuarial Science, a Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA)from Ahmadu Bello University.
