Paul Boateng Former British High Commissioner to South Africa, Member of the House of Lords (UK)

The Rt Hon The Lord Boateng, CVO is a lawyer and politician, raised in both Ghana and the UK. He served as a UK Member of Parliament from 1987 to 2005 and became the first person of color to hold a ministerial and Cabinet post, serving as Chief Secretary to the Treasury. From 2005 to 2009, he was the UK High Commissioner to South Africa.

Currently, Lord Boateng is on the board of the Ghana International Bank and is Chancellor of the University of Greenwich. He also serves on the International Agreements Committee of the House of Lords and chairs the Archbishops’ Commission on Racial Justice.

In August, he delivered the keynote address at Africa 24, the Caucus of African Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, in Abuja, Nigeria. Lord Boateng is active on the boards of several philanthropic and commercial organizations focused on emerging markets. He frequently contributes as a broadcaster and writer, offering commentary on African history and politics.
