Florence Bauer has served as UNFPA’s Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia since July 2022. With a 30-year career dedicated to advancing children’s and women’s rights, Ms. Bauer has championed initiatives in early childhood development, maternal and adolescent health, mental health, violence prevention, sexuality education, and social protection.
Prior to her role at UNFPA, Ms. Bauer held senior positions with UNICEF, where she advocated for children’s rights in complex political settings. She was the UNICEF Representative in Brazil (2017-2022), Argentina (2014-2017), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (2009-2014). Her earlier experience includes work in civil society and the private sector.
Ms. Bauer holds a postgraduate diploma in Public Policy Studies from the University of London and a Master’s in Business Administration with a specialization in International Relations from the École des Hautes Études Commerciales du Nord in Lille, France.
