Elmar Brok Former Member, European Parliament

Elmar Brok is a prominent Member of the European Parliament (MEP), serving since 1980. He has held significant positions, including Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs from 1999 to 2007 and again from 2012 to January 2017. He is currently a member of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and serves as a substitute member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.

Brok has co-chaired the Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue and the Transatlantic Policy Network, and is the Chairman of the World Association of Christian Democrat Parties. He plays an active role in the European People’s Party (EPP) as a member of its executive and as Co-Chairman of EPP Foreign Ministers. His leadership extends to various organizations, including the European Endowment for Democracy and the Union of European Federalists.

With a rich political career, Brok has been involved in key negotiations for several EU treaties and institutions. He studied law and political science, began his career in journalism, and held senior roles at Bertelsmann AG, advising on media development and European film industry affairs.
