Ali Bakir is a Professor at Qatar University’s Ibn Khaldon Center. He is also a Non-resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council’s “Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative” and the Middle East Programs. Before joining QU, Bakir served as a senior advisor at Qatar’s embassy in Ankara. He also worked as the head of the “Gulf Studies” unit at the “Center for Middle Eastern Studies”; a senior researcher at the “Center for Middle East and Africa Studies” at the “International Strategic Research Organisation”, and a senior researcher at AIWA Group for Defence and Economy. His education, fieldwork, and work experience span several countries, including Kuwait, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Turkiye and Qatar. His most recent scholarly work is “Turkey’s Security Role in the Gulf Region: Exploring the Case of a Newcomer” in the Turkish Studies Journal.
