As the global system continues to move towards multipolarity, new powers have emerged, seeking to leave their mark on the evolving international landscape. Türkiye is no exception, and recent years have demonstrated Ankara’s growing influence in both regional and global affairs. Over the past decade, Türkiye has emerged as a stabilising regional power, playing an active role in resolving global crises and mitigating regional conflicts. Its involvement in the Libyan conflict and its proactive diplomatic efforts in the Russia-Ukraine war, including its pivotal role in brokering the Ukraine Grain Deal, are just two recent examples of this engagement.
Beyond Türkiye’s involvement in conflicts and crises, its foreign policy has consistently emphasised the need for the international system to reflect the realities of a changing world order. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been one of the most vocal proponents of reforming key international institutions, particularly the United Nations Security Council, championing his widely recognised mantra, “the world is bigger than five.”
This session will explore the future of Turkish foreign policy, focusing on its evolving position and potential as a stabilising force amid the challenges and opportunities presented by the emerging global order.
